Medical Transcription Medical transcriptionists are vital members of the healthcare team who are responsible for accurately recording important medical data in a variety of medical reports and specialty areas. StenoTech graduates are employed by medical transcription agencies, hospitals, doctors’ offices, medical clinics and labs; some enjoy independent careers with lucrative home-based transcription businesses. The 960-clock-hour MT program is taught over a period of 40 weeks for students attending full-time but can be modified for students wishing to attend on a part-time day or evening basis. Courses include keyboarding, transcription fundamentals, medical terminology with anatomy, surgical and laboratory procedures, human disease processes, research techniques, and medicolegal issues. Approximately two-thirds of the total course clock hours is devoted to hands-on transcription production work. Transfer credit is awarded for all comparable previously completed course work and relevant work experience. |
